Challenge
There was a requirement to create many water retention basins at Verrado for
storm runoff with the need to allow for 120 acre feet of water storage
and still make it look like part of the natural landscape.
Solution
With client support, we were able to design the basins with ample natural rock
and vegetation, building a much more natural environment. Today, most people
are unable to tell that the basins are not a natural element of the golf
course.
Result
Nestled in the foothills of the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix, The Raven
at Verrado offers a fantastic golf experience for players of all levels and spectacular
views of the Valley of the Sun. Open fairways invite off the tee but the strength
of the course comes greenside where subtle rolls and bumps must be negotiated
and strategic bunkering avoided. Play golf in the air or on the ground, your
choice, but bring a sterling short game.
